OUR ENVIRONMENTAL / GREEN POLICY
We are committed to becoming a role model for best practice in
environmental performance. We are committed to sustainable development,
to reduce the impact of the environment from our operations and
to maximize environmental improvement. We will develop a strategy
and program in relation to our corporate social responsibility
and environmental agenda to deliver this.
We will:
- •
Minimize waste by indentifying ways to reduce, re-use and
recycle. We re-use all wood waste cut-offs from the manufacture
of wooden furniture. This material is ground by machine and
then formed into wood logs in a compression ram. These wood
logs are then fed into our boiler system and burned to create
the heat needed to create the steam to heat our plant. The
use of this system has reduced our dependence on natural gas
by 70%. We minimize pollution from greenhouse emissions from
our energy use.
• 99% of all shipments leaving our plant are shipped
by blanket wrapped carrier meaning that we do not use cartons
and packaging materials which are often discarded at the destination.
Instead we use reusable shipping pads and blankets which do
not add to the waste factor.
• All electricity used in our operation is hydro-electricity
which comes from hydro developments which is a renewable resource.
• We have an in-house recycling program for all products
including paper, metal cans, plastics, etc. We encourage all
employees to reduce environmental impacts associated with
their work and encourage them to develop new ideas.
• We use old clothing which is torn into usable strips
for staining and finishing purposes as well as cleaning products
upon completion.
• We use recycled paper company wide where available
for use in the office and the washrooms.
• We will swap all incandescent bulbs to CF bulbs where
possible and recycle all CF bulbs.
• We turn off lights, switch off computers, printers,
and copiers and lower heat settings to conserve energy when
heading home for the evenings or weekends.
• We continue to design and manufacture superior furniture
products, products that will last for extended trouble free
periods, in some cases for more than thirty years, products
which will not end up in a landfill within a year.
• We will continue to use locally grown hardwoods, hardwoods
such as poplar which are quick growth trees and not import
hardwoods from off shore with their large carbon footprint
due to transportation.
• Set and monitor environmental objectives and continually
assess and improve the effectiveness of our environmental
management system. Make this policy available to all interested
parties and review it on an annual basis.
